The Firebird Band is an indie rock band hailing from Chicago, Illinois. The band was created as a side project by Chris Broach, of Braid notoriety, and his brother Riley Broach in 1996. The band's first endeavor was the 7" titled New York under the name of The Firebird Suite which was released in 1998. The band became a full-time project for Chris Broach following Braid's disbandment in 1999. The Firebird Band is currently Chris Broach and Steve Znavor (of Life at Sea).

Confession time: the Firebird Band have a full-length album out called The Setting Sun and Its Satellites, which I haven't heard. I can only wonder if it sounds as positively bad as this EP does. If I harp on how rotten the production is, it's because I have few qualms with the music, outside of the first track, which is just aimless. The Drive winds down with the quasi-instrumental "Wish," which is populated by manipulated vocals, fluttering synths and some programmed percussion. It's tough to latch onto anything, though, because all of the elements are once again flung like chaff into a vacuum of production ideas, tightly played, but strangely disjointed from each other. With some work, the Firebird Band could be making really great albums- there's certainly no shortage of talent or ideas present in the band. Unfortunately, this EP lacks the punch to box me into recommending them.

New album from The Firebird Band (Chris Broach of Braid) and others (John Isberg, Steve Znavor, and more). Electronic-Rock hybrid. also includes one unreleased song from the original recording of The Firebird Band's "The Setting Sun & Its Satellites" LP.
